“Breathing Room” by Karen Orr

Oklahoma  City, OK – March 20, 2010 -- Opening & exhibit by Oklahoma artist Karen Orr at the "In Your Eye Studio & Gallery" in the Historic Paseo Arts District. Opening reception is Friday, April 2nd from 6:00pm-10:00pm. In Your Eye Gallery will also preview printmaker and textile artist Stacey D. Miller. Sand Hill Vineyard will be this months guest winery. Show runs thru April 30th.

“Breathing Room,” Karen Orr’s show features expansive spaces and an exploration of nature thru a variety of mediums. Orr’s process, making use of collage and painting, starts with an inspiration from her surroundings and then chooses her medium to depict her vision. Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor and Encaustic is used depending on what impression she is trying to capture. Unusual color combinations help explore the intervening spaces and the intrinsic qualities of nature. Karen has created a visual “breathing room” with her use of contemporary colors, style and expansive view.

Stacey D. Miller
Stacey’s peripatetic youth has given her an interest in the history of a place and its people and she is drawn to old cultures. Moroccan design was chosen to create these pillows as organic sculpture components. While Stacey can appreciate their comfort she prefers to think of her pillows as geometric shapes intricately detailed with bright colors, unusually inviting texture, symbolism and patterns expressed through relief prints, cased in fine fabrics. She selected her fabric colors to mirror the aromatic shades you find in near east spice and produce markets. The patterns and symbols are variations reminiscent of the last several hundred years of Moroccan design. These pillows pile together like carts stuffed with cumin, dried rose buds, saffron, eggplant, mint and almonds.

Sand Hill Vineyards
Sand Hill Vineyards, one of Oklahoma's new award winning wineries, will be offering tasting of a variety of wines. Winemaker and Viticulture Professor Andrew Snyder and Vineyard Manager Katy Lee will pour Sand Hill Vineyards wines. Wines available for tasting and purchase include White Zinfandel, Vignoles, Chisholm Trail Red, Muscat, Riesling and Pinot Grigio. Sand Hill Vineyards is one of Oklahoma’s newest wineries. The vineyard was planted in 2002 and is located near Calumet, OK.
