“Cherokee Heritage”
by Sarah Davison
Oklahoma City, OK – November 23th, 2009 -- Opening & exhibit by Oklahoma artist Sarah Davison at the "In Your Eye Studio & Gallery" in the Historic Paseo Arts District. Opening reception is Friday, December 4th from 6:00pm-10:00pm. In Your Eye Gallery will also be hosting the Strebel Creek Vineyard located in Oklahoma City. Show runs thru December 31st.
Sarah is honoring her Cherokee heritage by creating fine silver jewelry embellished by Cherokee symbols and the Cherokee syllabary. The Cherokees are the only people to have a written language developed by one man, Sequoyah. This enabled them to excel in business, government, and education. Sarah uses the syllabary text to pattern her silver pieces strung with semiprecious beads.
Strebel Creek Vineyard and Gift Shop

Strebel Creek Vineyard and Gift Shop opened as a commercial winery in July, 2007… Oklahoma City’s first and only licensed winery to date. The vintner, Dr. Gary Strebel, a local obstetrician and gynecologist, started planting vines and making wine about 12 years ago on the property that he and his wife, Sherry, had lived on for 32 years. After making more wine than he could drink or give away, he decided to go commercial. The winery, located at 11521 N. MacArthur in Oklahoma City is a 100 year old barn that has been redone with one of the original walls of the barn as a wall in the gift shop. Since opening, there have been more than 2000 visitors who always make comments about the warmth and hospitality they sense in this winery. Tastings are always available, at no charge, when the winery is open on Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. Dr. Strebel has won numerous awards on his wine including “Best of Show” at the Oklahoma State Fair. The beautiful label on the wine bottles was designed and painted by Greg Burns, a renowned Oklahoma artist.
The wines that will be sampled at the First Friday Art Show will be Merlot, White Zin, Chardonnay and Firehouse Red.
