Prairie Rattler Winery
Paula Hammer, and her husband Rick, began the Prairie Rattler Winery in 2005. It was an idea that became a reality when they said, "What the heck, let's try." The Prairie Rattler Winery is located in far north west Osage County, near the small town of Shidler. Located 24 miles East of Ponca City on OK state highway 11.
Osage County has a rich, colorful, and exciting history. American Indians, Cowboys, Outlaws, and Oil-Men are all part of the "Boom-town" history of the region. "OIL MAN", written by Michael Wallis, is the biography of the late Frank Phillips. It also is an accurate and detailed history of Osage County.
Paula and Rick both graduated from Shidler High School in 1975. They both attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, OK. They both graduated from The University of Oklahoma. Paula with a Nursing Degree in 1979, and Rick with a Business Degree in 1980.
WINE LIST FOR THE EVENT...
1. Strawberry-Gusher - This "country" wine is a semi-dry wine made from fresh strawberries from Paul's strawberry patch. The robust strawberry aroma and taste is great with your favorite semi-sweet chocolate shared with that special someone.
2. Prairie Rain - A Reisling semi-sweet white wine. Fruity, citrus taste. For something different, try marinating about an ounce of this wine on you favorite steak for about 45 minutes before you cook it on the grill. Makes the steak tender and delicious.
3. Skuwe Zhuje - Kaw Nation word for Red Sweet. Very sweet desert wine, a blend of a variety of red grapes. Just right after a delicious meal.
4. Prairie Sunrise - "Discovered" by accident. We only had about 300 pounds of Cabernet Franc Grapes. Not enough to do anything with. So we decided to blend them with some extra Reisling. A dry, crimson colored, wine that is great with any meal. You can distinctively taste both grapes. Unique and full bodied.
