NATALIE FRIEDMAN
Natalie’s career as a professional artist began at age 11 with a $10 sale of a pastel drawing of toys on a shelf. Fast forward quite a few years past earning a BA in psychology, marrying and raising two daughters, holding several jobs, owning her own business, and co-authoring a book! After recovering from all that, Natalie started to seriously pursue a career as an artist.
Natalie began her studies in watercolors, and then transitioned to acrylics, collage, mixed media and printmaking. She is currently exploring fiber art through the creation of art quilts. The process which underlies all of Natalie’s artistic endeavors is layering, whether it’s with paints, papers, fabrics or whatever else is at hand.
Natalie explains that, “My overwhelming inspiration is the Orient, particularly Japan. I have had the good fortune to make several trips to the Orient. The culture, the symbols, the calligraphy, the colors, the spiritualism and the exquisite papers and textiles all speak loudly to me. Much of my artwork is based on this oriental inspiration.”
